A Happy Accident

The Greek Frappe is more than just a coffee – it’s a cultural phenomenon that traces its origins back to 1957 in Thessaloniki, Greece. The story begins at the Thessaloniki International Fair, where a Nestlé representative, Dimitris Vakondios, created the first Frappe entirely by accident. During a break, he wanted his usual instant coffee but couldn’t find hot water. Resourceful and craving his caffeine fix, he decided to mix instant coffee, cold water, and ice in a shaker – and the Greek Frappe was born!
